Minority MPs clad in red and black to protest suspension of MPs

-

Minority Members of Parliament on Tuesday, February 4, 2025, dressed in red and black to protest Speaker Alban Bagbin’s decision to suspend four MPs following the chaos that erupted during a ministerial vetting on Thursday, January 30.

The four MPs—Frank Annoh-Dompreh, Rockson-Nelson Dafeamekpor, Alhassan Tampuli, and Jerry Ahmed Shaib—were suspended on Friday, January 31, 2025, after their involvement in the disturbances.

As Parliament resumed for its fourth-week sitting, Minority MPs were seen clad in red and black, singing patriotic songs and party anthems to express their displeasure over the suspension.

During a press briefing on Monday, February 3, 2025, the Minority caucus strongly opposed the Speaker’s decision, arguing that their colleagues had not been given a fair hearing before the suspension.

They described the move as a violation of their rights and an unfair exercise of parliamentary authority.

In response to the situation, barricades were mounted at Parliament House, with marshals positioned at the entrance of the conclave to monitor the entry of MPs.

The heightened security measures are aimed at preventing the suspended lawmakers from accessing the chamber.

The Minority has vowed to continue its protest as it pushes for a reconsideration of the Speaker’s decision.
