Every African country sees itself as special; Ghana must be strategic – Hanna Tetteh

-

Hanna Serwaa Tetteh has advised Ghana’s incoming Minister for Foreign Affairs, urging him to take a broader perspective on regional and international affairs.

She emphasized the need for Ghana to recognize both its strengths and weaknesses in global diplomacy, cautioning against overestimating its influence.

Tetteh noted that while Ghana has historically positioned itself as a leader in Africa, other nations equally see themselves as important players.

“Every African country considers itself unique and special. We must collaborate, not compete,” she stated. She urged Ghana’s foreign policy leaders to engage with key allies while being mindful of how competitor nations position themselves for economic and security advantages.

Reflecting on the late President John Atta Mills, she praised his leadership style, describing him as a thoughtful statesman who prioritized service, healing, and reconciliation.

According to her, Mills had a disciplined approach to governance, providing clarity to his ministers without unnecessary interference.
