Maame Ama Pratt, the newly appointed Press Secretary to Vice President Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang, has admitted that her appointment came as a surprise, despite her active involvement in the 2020 and 2024 campaigns.
In an interview, she revealed that she had stepped back from frontline campaign activities due to her husband’s selection as the running mate for Movement for Change.
“At that point, I didn’t think it was good for the optics for me to be that actively involved,” she explained. Given this, she did not anticipate being chosen for the role.
However, she recalled the moment she received the news directly from the Vice President herself. “She picked up the phone and called me.
She said, ‘Ama, I want you to be my Press Secretary.’” Describing the Vice President as a down-to-earth leader, she expressed her admiration for her approachability and leadership style.
Despite the unexpected nature of her appointment, Maame Ama Pratt is embracing the role with a sense of duty. “It’s an honour, but more importantly, there’s work to do,” she emphasized.
