Member of Parliament for Nsawam Adoagyiribhas acknowledged that the people in his constituency were angry with him.
According to him, they punished him during the 2024 election to register their anger.
He says almost 30,000 people refused to vote in his stronghold, the reason why he struggled to win the election with ease.
“It was a big shock; we never saw it coming. If there is anyone in our party who says this was seen ahead of time well…Past questions are always easy. In the aftermath of it, everybody can say anything.
“We were all confident that even if we were going to lose, it is going to be by a thin skin. This was tough; it was too much of a blow for us. I think Ghanaians got angry with us and they punished us for it. We never thought the depth of anger was that deep. In my stronghold, close to about 30,000 people in my stronghold did not turn out to vote, that is why I was struggling,” he said.
I am humbled, and it is a decision we have to accept. Once upon a time, they gave us a marginal difference of 1 million votes to His Excellency Akufo-Addo, which in recent times nobody had garnered that. So if they have given you one million in one breath and they are saying that this time based on what has happened, you need to go home and do your homework well, I think we should accept it in good stride. We have no alternative; the power that we yield flows from the people and the people are custodians of the real power, so if they say you can no longer be there you have to bow out,” he said.
