NPP MP proposes best solution to fight monetary influence during primaries

-

A member of Parliament for Akyem Swedru, Kennedy Osei Nyarko, has suggested a better way to select the New Patriotic Party’s flagbearer and parliamentary candidates.

He acknowledges that the electoral college must be expanded to include card-bearing members.

However, he believes that these card-bearing members should be made to choose the number of people who will vote in the election on the day of the election.

He is of the view that he will fight against the system where delegates have to be bribed before choosing the flagbearer and parliamentary candidates for the party.

Kennedy Osei Nyarko made this position known through a post shared via social media.

He said “I think the issue of allowing every card bearing members to be part os the selection process of the Flagbearer and the PC seems to be more popular than any other concerns from the grassroots. I will rather go for the tier 2 where on the day of the presidential and parliamentary elections each polling station will be allowed to nominate a certain number of people among themselves from the registered members in each polling station to vote on behalf of the others. Because this will be spontaneous candidates vying for various positions cannot bribe or influence those going to vote with any substantial amounts to delegates since they wouldn’t know who and who will be selected on the day to represent the others on the morning of the elections.

I think this will be the best approach. For example if the party decides to expand the number of people who can partake in the selection of Presidential and parliamentary candidates to say 25 or 30 people then in the morning of the elections all card bearing members of the party will now among themselves select these 25 or 30 people instantly to represent the rest in the elections”.
