18-year-old American tourist arrested for throwing her newborn from hotel window

-

An 18-year-old American tourist, Mia McQuillin, has been identified as the suspect in a tragic incident in Paris, where she allegedly threw her newborn from a hotel window.

The baby, discovered with its umbilical cord still attached, was rushed to Robert Debré Hospital but did not survive the fall.

The shocking event unfolded in the early hours of Monday, February 24, 2025, at the ibis Styles Hotel, where McQuillin was staying as part of a gap year program with EF Gap Year, a Massachusetts-based organization that arranges international educational experiences.

What was meant to be an enriching travel experience has now turned into a criminal investigation that has left many in disbelief.

Authorities are investigating whether McQuillin was suffering from pregnancy denial, a condition in which a woman remains unaware of or refuses to accept her pregnancy until labor.

French prosecutors have opened a case for the homicide of a minor under 15 years old, and McQuillin remains in custody as they prepare formal charges.

EF Gap Year has issued a statement expressing deep shock and sadness, assuring that they are fully cooperating with the investigation while providing counseling support to other members of the program. Meanwhile, the U.S. Embassy in Paris is closely monitoring the situation.
