The newly-renovated A4 and A5 wards at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH) in Kumasi have been officially opened for patients’ admissions and care, following a transformative upgrade under the ‘Heal Komfo Anokye Project’.
Equipped with cutting-edge medical technology, and infrastructural improvement of the wards will accommodate 32 patients per floor across five floors, enhancing healthcare delivery at Ghana’s second-largest referral hospital.
The upgrade will satisfy the growing demand for quality healthcare, serving patients from 12 of Ghana’s 16 regions.
Management of Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH) have handed over the fully hoisted A4 and A5 wards for in-patient admission and care.
The renovated wards were in a ramshackle state, but have been retooled with installation of state-of-the-art hospital equipment and facilities as part of the ongoing ‘Heal KATH project’.
Director of Administration at KATH, Fred Effah Yeboah, indicated the Hospital is a monumental investment of the country, catering for the healthcare needs of the middle and northern belts of the country.
He is excited at the physical and technological improvement of the wards that will affect patients’ experience and improve quality health care.
“Staff and management always get depressed when caring for patients in dilapidated environments. The renovation came with retooling and improvement in the technologies here and I think that’s the condition that patients require to have the best healthcare experience. This new environment would translate into successful outcomes for workers and patients,” he revealed.
The project was financed by the Chief Executive of the Justmoh Group of Companies at a cost of $1.2 million.
CEO, Justmoh Group of Companies, Justice Amoh, asked that the facilities be maintained and the remaining units of the project be completed on time.
He praised Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, the Asantehene, for initiating the project to engender quality healthcare delivery at the facility.
“The best part of the project has been done, although there is still some work with the remaining wards. But for the ones they have been made available, I will admonish that we collectively ensure its longevity and sustainability. This is the dream of the King, and it’s more honorable that we sustain it and keep its positive face look,” he said.
Chairman of the Heal KATH project team, Sammy Adu Boakye, commended the team from Justmoh Construction for the input, whilst courting more support for the remaining work.
“We don’t take for granted the kind-hearted support we have received from Justmoh Group of Companies. We are impressed, and with all who are committed to improving the facility, maintaining high standards and quality patient care. But we have not clocked the end of the road yet,” he said.
The benevolence came with a renaming of the renovated block, after the mother of Mr Justice Amoh, Afua Manu.
