Chelsea have agreed a deal to sign Sporting CP winger Geovany Quenda ahead of Manchester United, reports have revealed.

Quenda enjoyed a real breakthrough under Red Devils head coach Ruben Amorim at Sporting and was widely expected to follow the boss to United this summer.

Out of nowhere, however, Chelsea have swooped in to wrap up a deal. News of an agreement was first revealed by Rising Stars XI, before Fabrizio Romano and The Athletic among others confirmed Quenda was heading to Chelsea.

It is a stunning move from the Blues, who have completed a deal for Quenda, including a medical, in complete silence behind the scenes.

Chelsea are reported to have paid in the region of €45m-€50m (£37.8m-£42m) to get this deal done – the same sort of fee United were aiming to pay when they first explored a deal for the 17-year-old back in January.

Quenda will remain with Sporting for the 2025/26 season before moving to Stamford Bridge. It is unclear whether he will take up an international loan spot or a transfer has simply been agreed for the future.

A natural right winger, Quenda made his biggest impact under Amorim as a wing-back but has spent plenty of time on the left wing in recent weeks. It is claimed Chelsea see him as a “pure winger” who can be deployed on either side.

Chelsea are already preparing to welcome Kendry Paez and Estevao Willian to Stamford Bridge this summer. The former, an attacking midfielder, will join for around £17m, while winger Estevao’s transfer could be worth over £50m if all add-ons are triggered.

Estevao, like Quenda, is usually seen on the right wing but there have been suggestions the young Brazilian could be deployed in more of a central role when he moves to England.

Highly rated goalkeeper Mike Penders will also join Chelsea this summer in a deal worth £17m.
