Uromi killings: I’ll contact Kano gov to agree on victims’ compensation

-

The governor of Edo State, Monday Okpebholo has assured that he would be working with his colleague in Kano State to agree on the right compensation for victims of Uromi killings.

Okpebholo in a statement issued by Fred Itua, his press secretary said he would soon contact his Kano counterpart on the matter.

Recall that 16 hunters were lynched to death in Edo State while on their way from Rivers State to Kano during the Sallah period.

It was confirmed that the hunters were found with guns and daggers after they were intercepted by local vigilantes in Uromi, Esan Local Government of Edo State.

With their killing which caused an outrage from Northerners, the two state governors affected have agreed that compensation should be paid to victims and families of the deceased.

Continuing, Itua said any agreement reached on the victims’ compensation would be made public.

He also said that the Federal Government and the Edo State government have set up a fact-finding committee to determine the circumstances that led to the killings.

Itua said, “I can’t say what the financial compensation will be. The Kano State Government delegation arrived in Benin on Thursday and submitted a report that only the Edo State governor has seen.

“What I think will happen is that the governor will contact the Kano State governor on what financial compensation would go to the family of the deceased.

“What is clear is that an agreement will be reached, and it will be made public,” he noted.
