Tension as fully-laden fuel tanker, truck collide in Enugu

-

There was a commotion in Enugu State on Monday, April 14, when a loaded 33,000 litres of fuel collided with a tipper.

Sources said the accident occurred when the tanker was descending the popular Ninth Mile Road while the tipper was ascending from Enugu, on the single lane along the Ugwu Onyeama axis of the Enugu-Onitsha Expressway.

According to eyewitnesses, the six occupants in both vehicles escaped unhurt.

Confirming the incident, the Sector Commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) in Enugu State, Franklin Agbakoba said the scene of the accident has been cordoned off by the corps.

He said that officials of the FRSC are on the ground to ensure the free flow of traffic on the road.

In addition, firefighters were also at the scene to extinguish any fire outbreak at the scene.

“Only one person was injured while about six persons were inside. They came out unhurt while the injured person has been taken to the Enugu State University Teaching Hospital Parklane, Enugu for treatment.

“There was no fire outbreak. Our men are there with those of the fire service. We were able to ward off people that came to scoop PMS from the scene.

“We had to block the road, divert traffic to other lane. Up till now, the road is still diverted. We’re waiting for a tanker to come and transload the contents,” Agbakoba said.
