Former National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Prince Uche Secondus, has raised alarm over the state of affairs in Rivers State, warning that the actions of the recently appointed Sole Administrator, Vice Admiral Ibok-Ette Ibas (rtd), are pushing the state toward instability.
Secondus made his remarks in an Easter message released by his Special Adviser on Media, Ike Abonyi.
He said the Sole Administrator’s activities have set Rivers State on a “keg of gunpowder.”
The former PDP helmsman condemned what he described as the monopolization of the state’s political space. He said, “Sadly, Rivers State has found itself on the ugly side of history over the control of resources and the state by one man.”
He urged President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to reconsider his position on the political situation in the state, following the suspension of Governor Siminalayi Fubara and other elected officials in March for an initial period of six months, which led to the appointment of Ibas as Sole Administrator.
“I urge President Bola Tinubu to refuse to be led astray on the situation in Rivers State and should instead be guided by the voice of reason by restoring Governor Similaya Fubara who has the mandate of the people,” Secondus said.
He also cautioned political actors in the state, warning them not to “play God by toying with the destiny of the citizens of the state,” adding that they should “beware of the wrath and consequences of the Almighty.”
“My special appreciation goes to the Ijaw nation, its leaders and people, the indisputable fourth largest ethnic group in Nigeria with over 30 LGAs across seven states, for managing the provocations,” Secondus added.
On the state of insecurity, he urged citizens to continue praying for divine intervention, adding that, “God’s solution is the final and worthwhile.”
“I urge Christians to continue to show love and piety among themselves, as Christ’s resurrection at Easter brings hope to mankind, knowing that after Good Friday of disappointment and the death of Christ comes an Easter Sunday,” the statement added.
