The newly appointed spokesperson for the Nigerian Army, Lieutenant Colonel Onyinyechi Anele on Tuesday, April 22, assumed office.
Anele, the first female spokesperson for the Nigerian Army took over office from Major General Onyema Nwachukwu as the acting Director of Army Public Relations.
Speaking during a handover ceremony in Abuja, Nigeria’s capital city, Anele promised to lead with transparency, proactiveness, respect and utmost professionalism.
Appreciating the Chief of Army Staff and the Nigerian Army for such an opportunity, Anele said she does not take the task before her lightly.
She commended her predecessor for laying the footprint for her to emulate in this aspect of her career.
“To be entrusted with this strategic role as the Nigerian Army spokesperson, being the first female officer to do so, is historic and humbling.
“I urge you to continue to support the Nigerian Army as we work tirelessly to safeguard our nation’s peace, unity, and sovereignty. As I begin this journey, I pledge to lead the Directorate with transparency, professionalism, respect, and proactiveness.
“We will continue to tell the Nigerian Army’s story, not just through words, but through actions that reflect honour, sacrifice, responsibility and service to the nation,” Anele said.
Addressing colleagues at the event, the new Army spokesperson called for support and committment to the role of protecting the image and the integrity of the Nigerian Army.
