The Jospong Group has called on its critics to look beyond the contract sums and consider the impacts of the projects the money is being injected into.
It clarified that it has contributed significantly to improved sanitation, livelihoods and human capacity development through its partnership with the government.
The Chief Corporate Communications Officer of Jospong Group, Sophia Kudzordzi said these when members of the Local Government and Rural Development Committee of Parliament toured the Integrated Recycling and Compost Plant and Medical Waste Treatment facilities in Akrofu in the Volta Region.
She stressed that, the various waste management facilities dotted across the country are evidence of investments done with the money provided by the government.
“We have not taken somebody’s money and run away to another country to go and build. Whatever money Zoomlion has received over the years, this is evident across the nation for everybody to see. We are using it to build our people. These are monies that we have worked for, and it is contractual money that is being paid”, she explained.
She added that the company would keep improving its services and implored the citizenry to assume supporting roles by practicing good sanitation. She entreated the security services to punish people who flout sanitation laws.
Madam Kudzordzi emphasized that her outfit has in many instances remained committed to delivering its services when it is being owed years.
The Member of Parliament for Agona East, Queenstar Maame Pokuah Sawyerr, was impressed with the investments done by the Jospong Group in the areas of waste recycling and value addition and the treatment of medical waste.
She asserted that the group “needs a lot of incentives from the government”, promising the Committee would recommend and ensure the needed support is provided to enhance the services of the company.
She underscored the need for sustainability of the partnership agreements between the waste management company and the government, advising that contracts should be maintained by successive governments.
The Member of Parliament for Agotime Ziope, Charles Agbeve, and Vice Chair of the Local Government Committee, lauded the medical waste treatment facility initiative, identifying it as a solution to a major challenge in the health sector.
He said the initiative has brought great relief to the health facilities, curbing health hazards posed to the environment in the past.
He, however, lamented the 2-years arrears owed the company by the government, urging Jospong Group to furnish the Parliament Health Committee with the necessary details for appropriate actions.
He warned of the consequences of the government’s failure to honor its side of the bargain by providing finances for the management and payment of staff.
“I think the agreement or collaboration that existed to get this plant built should just continue. I don’t think we need to reinvent the wheels. What went into the agreement to get this plant built so that it should be supported and paid, for should just be looked that. I think that is the best way forward. If we don’t do these things we will be going back to the dark stage where medical waste will be dumped anywhere and anyhow and you and I know the consequences of this”, he said.
