More Details Emerge as VeryDarkMan Is Expected to Be Released Today

-

Social media influencer Martins Otse, widely known as VeryDarkMan (VDM), may be released today, according to new information from the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).

Sources say the EFCC also plans to charge him in court on Thursday.

A senior EFCC official, who asked not to be named, confirmed on Monday that Otse is still in custody but has not yet been officially charged.

VeryDarkMan was arrested last week by the EFCC.

His lawyer, Deji Adeyanju, confirmed the arrest on X, saying Otse was picked up along with his friend, C Park, by a team of police officers.

In a new post on Monday night, Adeyanju said the reason for the arrest remains unclear.

He wrote, “Got into the country this evening and went straight to VDM at EFCC. Just left him. We still cannot understand why he was arrested. EFCC said there’s no petition against him after our repeated demand.”

Meanwhile, many young people protested in Abuja on Monday, demanding Otse’s release. They marched from the EFCC headquarters to a commercial bank where he was reportedly arrested.

The protesters held signs reading “Release Very Dark Man” and “Seyi Tinubu, Are You Involved?” among others. They called the arrest illegal and urged the authorities to be transparent.
