Sowore slams Peter Obi over comments on 2012 subsidy protests

-

Former presidential candidate Omoyele Sowore has lashed out at Labour Party’s 2023 presidential flagbearer, Peter Obi, for questioning the legitimacy of the 2012 protests against fuel subsidy removal under former President Goodluck Jonathan.

Reacting to Obi’s recent remarks wondering why those who protested under Jonathan are silent amid soaring prices under President Bola Tinubu, Sowore described Obi’s comments as “dishonest” and “outrightly dumb.”

Sowore, a key figure in the 2012 protests, accused Obi of attempting to rewrite history due to his political proximity to the Jonathan administration.

He further alleged that Obi’s former bank, Fidelity Bank, helped ex-Minister Diezani Alison-Madueke launder money during that era.

“If Peter Obi believes protests were unnecessary under Jonathan, why should Tinubu’s administration be held to a different standard?” Sowore asked via his X (formerly Twitter) handle.

The Sahara Reporters publisher dared Obi and his “Obidient” movement to organize mass protests against the current administration, criticizing their lack of street-level activism.

“Stop gaslighting Nigerians. You’ve never led any protest in your life,” Sowore added.
