The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has announced the release of results for candidates who sat the rescheduled 2025 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME).
This was disclosed in a statement by the Board’s spokesperson, Fabian Benjamin.
According to JAMB, the rescheduled examination was conducted for over 300,000 candidates whose initial results were affected by a technical glitch that disrupted tests in 157 centres across Lagos State and the South-East region.
Of the 336,845 candidates rescheduled to sit the exam, 21,082 were recorded absent.
JAMB further stated that candidates who missed either the main UTME or the rescheduled sessions, amounting to a total of 92,783, will be given another opportunity to write the examination.
The examination body expressed regret over the disruptions caused by the technical failure, while also revealing that a post-exam review uncovered several irregularities involving candidates, school proprietors, and some Computer-Based Test (CBT) centres.
JAMB said it discovered alarming levels of malpractice, including manipulation of candidate details and biometric data during registration.
As a result, it has resolved to blacklist all implicated CBT centres and prosecute their owners, along with individuals found to have registered candidates using altered photographs and biometrics.
The released results underwent a thorough review led by Prof. Boniface Nworgu, an expert in educational measurement and evaluation.
His findings were corroborated by a committee of Chief External Examiners chaired by Prof. Olufemi Peters, Vice-Chancellor of the National Open University of Nigeria.
JAMB also released a detailed breakdown of the 2025 UTME performance:
- 17,025 candidates (0.88%) scored above 300
- 117,373 candidates (6.08%) scored above 250
- 565,988 candidates (29.3%) scored above 200
- Over 1.3 million candidates (70.7%) scored below 200
The Board noted that this year’s performance falls within the 12-year historical range of UTME outcomes, with success rates fluctuating between 11 per cent (2013) and 34 per cent (2016).
