The Deputy Attorney-General, Justice Srem Sai, has clarified the reasons behind the arrest of the Ashanti Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Bernard Antwi Bosiako, also known as Chairman Wontumi, by the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO).
His clarification was shared in a post on his Facebook page dated May 29.
“Suspect BERNARD ANTWI BOSIAKO, a.k.a. Chairman Wontumi, is currently under investigation for multiple criminal offenses, including fraud, causing financial loss to the State, and money laundering,” he stated.
Dr. Srem Sai further noted, “The criminal investigation is being conducted alongside asset recovery efforts to prevent any further dissipation of what law enforcement agencies strongly believe to be proceeds of crime.
Additionally, the suspect is facing a second line of investigation that is part of a larger international organized crime scheme.
The Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) is diligently collaborating with our international law enforcement partners on this second line of criminal investigations.
