Afenyo-Markin slams EOCO chief for snubbing engagements, warns of consequences

Minority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin has delivered a strong warning to Raymond Archer, the Executive Director of the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO), urging him to rethink his leadership style as tensions escalate over the arrest and detention of the NPP’s Ashanti Regional Chairman, Bernard Antwi Boasiako, commonly known as Chairman Wontumi.

During a protest by the Minority Caucus at the EOCO headquarters, Afenyo-Markin cautioned Archer against being dismissive and engaging in bureaucratic delays when dealing with political figures and stakeholders.

“I want to address my esteemed friend, Mr. Raymond Archer. He will not hold the position of Executive Director of EOCO indefinitely. One day, he will no longer be in that role,” Afenyo-Markin stated emphatically.

He expressed concern over EOCO’s reluctance to participate in constructive discussions, arguing that their evasiveness only fuels suspicions of bias.

“You reach out to them, and they won’t even reply. You attempt to engage, and they might say, ‘Okay.’ But soon after, they will be avoiding you, avoiding you,” he expressed with disappointment.

Despite his discontent, Afenyo-Markin reaffirmed the NPP’s dedication to maintaining a peaceful dialogue, stating, “We will persist in our efforts to engage with them peacefully.”

However, he made it clear that there is a distinct difference between seeking justice and pursuing persecution, warning against actions that are politically motivated disguised as legal processes.
