Government clears all black stars technical staff salary arrears

In a significant move to enhance confidence and professionalism in Ghanaian football, the Government of Ghana has completely paid off all outstanding salaries owed to both current and former members of the Black Stars technical staff.

This initiative, led by the Ministry for Sports and Recreation under Hon. Kofi Iddie Adams, fulfills a long-held promise by the administration of former President John Dramani Mahama to foster equity and transparency within the sports sector.

Coaches who contributed to the national team during vital qualifiers and tournaments had faced long periods without pay.

The compensation package encompasses payments to former head coaches like Chris Hughton and C.K. Akonnor, as well as assistant coaches George Boateng, Didi Dramani, David Duncan, and Maxwell Konadu.

The current technical team, headed by Otto Addo, also received payments for arrears that accumulated between October 2024 and March 2025. This initiative followed a thorough audit and inter-agency collaboration to guarantee a fair and transparent disbursement process.

According to the Sports Minister, this effort is not just about settling debts – it signifies respect for national service and represents a step towards establishing a more accountable and professional sports framework.

Looking forward, the ministry intends to introduce a National Sports Fund to ensure consistent compensation and financial stability for sports professionals throughout the country.
