Head coach of the Black Queens, Kim Lars Björkegren, has stated that his main objective is to guide Ghana as far as possible in the upcoming 2025 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) tournament.
The Black Queens are making their return to the continental event for the first time since 2018 and have been placed in a challenging Group C, where they will compete against the reigning champions South Africa, Mali, and Tanzania.
Ghana will begin their campaign on July 7 with a crucial match against South Africa at the Honneur Stadium in Oudja.
“Our aim is to progress as far as we can in WAFCON. This is a significant step for us,” he shared with the Ghana FA website. “Sometimes we take steps in the right direction, and sometimes we don’t. However, it’s essential that we continue to move forward and improve every single day. That’s more crucial than the results we see today,” he added.
The Black Queens will face Mali in their second group match on July 12, followed by their final group game against Tanzania on July 17. Both matches will take place at the Berkane Stadium.
In preparation for the tournament, the Black Queens played an exciting 3-3 draw against Ivory Coast’s Les Elephants on Friday night.
The two teams are scheduled to meet again for a return fixture on Tuesday, June 3, at the Stade Félix Houphouët-Boigny.
