Former Communications Director for Ghana Gas and the head of the Fixing the Country Movement, Mr. Ernest Owusu Bempah, has proclaimed himself the “Messi of the NPP,” asserting that no one in the New Patriotic Party (NPP) can ascend to the presidency without his endorsement.
“I’m not claiming to be God, nor am I boasting,” he remarked in a recent interview on Oyerepa FM/TV.
“However, I possess a unique grace, a talent, that renders me essential within the NPP. No one — and I truly mean no one — can achieve the presidency in this nation under the NPP banner without my approval.”
His remarks come at a time when the NPP is still recovering from the intense political climate of its 2024 primaries, which featured a fierce battle between Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia and the outspoken MP for Assin Central, Kennedy Agyapong.
The two prominent figures clashed in one of the most fiercely contested internal elections in the party’s history — a confrontation that has left distinct factions within the party’s base.
While Dr. Bawumia ultimately emerged as the NPP’s Flagbearer, Kennedy Agyapong’s robust grassroots backing and unapologetic campaigning style rattled the very core of the party, making unity a critical concern as they approach the December 2024 general elections.
Amidst this backdrop, Owusu Bempah’s assertions seem to claim both a spiritual and strategic influence over the party’s destiny. “If anyone questions what I’m saying, they should consult the spiritual realm. I am not merely speaking — this is a truth that many fail to grasp,” he concluded.
