OSP accuses Ken Ofori-Atta of evading justice despite fair treatment

The Director of the Strategy, Research, and Communication division at the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP), Samuel Appiah Darko, has indicated that the OSP has shown significant restraint in managing the case concerning former Minister of Finance, Ken Ofori-Atta.

He pointed out that while criminal investigative agencies are typically recognized for their strictness and severity, the OSP has taken a notably fair and balanced approach towards Mr. Ofori-Atta, asserting that the OSP believes the former minister is intentionally evading interrogation.

During an appearance on the AM Show on JoyNews, Mr. Appiah Darko remarked, “Look, law enforcement can be tough, but what truly matters is what we refer to as proportionality and fairness. If you analyze the strategy behind this case, the OSP has treated Mr. Ken Ofori-Atta quite fairly, yet we are convinced that he is reluctant to show up,” he stated.

Mr. Appiah Darko further noted, “And when you are hesitant to appear, the state grants the law enforcement agency the authority to compel your appearance, and that is precisely what we are doing; it has nothing to do with our sensitivity or insensitivity.”

The OSP has placed Mr. Ofori-Atta back on its list of wanted individuals after he did not return to the country to face investigation regarding the various corruption allegations against him.

Ken Ofori-Atta is currently under investigation by the Special Prosecutor’s Office for alleged corruption and financial misconduct during his time as Minister of Finance. This case is part of a larger anti-corruption initiative, focusing on claims of mismanagement of public funds and dubious procurement practices.

The former minister reportedly left the country, citing health issues, shortly after the OSP began formal investigations. Despite numerous requests, he has not provided any medical documentation to the OSP to explain his absence.
