Gushegu MP Hassan Tampuli has called on the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) to consider a request from former Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta to be questioned virtually regarding ongoing investigations.
Mr. Tampuli is of the opinion that the digital tools we have today provide a viable alternative for engaging with those who cannot attend in person.
His remarks come after the OSP announced plans to issue an INTERPOL red notice against Mr. Ofori-Atta for consistently failing to respond to invitations for questioning.
The Special Prosecutor, Kissi Agyebeng, revealed during a press briefing in Accra on Monday, June 2nd, that the former Minister’s lack of compliance was the reason for escalating the situation.
In an interview with Channel One TV on the same day, Mr. Tampuli expressed that the OSP should utilize technological solutions to allow Mr. Ofori-Atta to address the allegations.
“What matters to me is that there are alternative options for Ken Ofori-Atta to engage with the OSP,” he remarked.
“In this digital age, we should expect some level of change. The OSP ought to leverage this digital platform to engage him.”
Mr. Ofori-Atta is said to have requested a virtual meeting due to health issues, although specifics about his condition have not been made public.
Nonetheless, the OSP maintains that no official medical documentation has been provided to justify his absence, which they view as an act of bad faith.
