Selective justice! – Martin Amidu slams Kissi Agyebeng over Ofori-Atta probe

In a harsh critique, former Special Prosecutor Martin Amidu has charged the current Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP), under the leadership of Kissi Agyebeng, with engaging in politicized law enforcement and opportunism, particularly in light of its recent actions against Ken Ofori-Atta.

Amidu contended that the OSP’s renewed focus on Ofori-Atta, long after he left government, is part of a tactic to curry favor with the new administration and ensure ongoing financial support.

He stated, “The Special Prosecutor, William Kissi Agyebeng, swore to Parliament during his vetting for office that he would investigate the Agyapa Royalty Transaction Report, which was prepared by the OSP on 15 October 2020, prior to his taking office on 9 August 2021.”

“This promise made under oath to the Parliament and the People of Ghana was never fulfilled by the OSP while Kissi Agyebeng was in charge,” Amidu added, implying that the decision not to probe the Agyapa deal was politically advantageous for the then-ruling government, of which Ofori-Atta was a key player.

Amidu asserted that Ofori-Atta was never called to testify during his tenure, despite numerous allegations of corruption and financial impropriety.

“Ken Ofori-Atta was never asked to assist with the investigations into all the alleged corruption and related offenses until he was summoned by the OSP as a suspect on 24 January 2025,” he remarked, “after a change in government on 7 January 2025, when Ken Ofori-Atta could no longer provide significant financial support for the OSP’s budget, which had been carelessly squandered without yielding positive anti-corruption outcomes.”

He claimed that the decision to label Ofori-Atta as a suspect was a calculated media strategy aimed at damaging his reputation and fostering a presumption of guilt.
