New Patriotic Party (NPP) Director of Legal Affairs, Gary Nimako, has disclosed that he has blocked lawyer Andy Appiah-Kubi, pledging never to communicate with him again.
Mr. Nimako, who is also a practicing lawyer, accused Mr. Appiah-Kubi, the lead counsel for the troubled NPP Ashanti Regional Chairman Bernard Antwi Boasiako, commonly known as Wontumi, of betraying him.
He shared this information on Asempa FM’s Ekosii Sen, voicing his concerns over Mr. Appiah-Kubi’s public claim that he was unaware of a variation application he had submitted, which reportedly hindered the bail process for Chairman Wontumi.
“I had a conversation with him before filing, and then he later claimed that the process had been obstructed, which I find to be unjust. How can you make such a statement publicly? It is neither right nor fair.”

“I had communicated with him before I filed, and then you later say you are not informed. I have blocked his number because if I can meet with you in confidence and you behave this way publicly, it indicates that I cannot engage with you anymore—hence, I have blocked his number,” he remarked.
Chairman Wontumi is currently under investigation by the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) for alleged financial offenses, including fraud, money laundering, and causing financial loss to the state.
Although he was granted bail of GH₵50 million with two approved sureties on May 28, delays in fulfilling the bail conditions prevented his release, even though the requirements were met by May 30.
To hasten the process, Mr. Nimako filed an application on Friday, May 30, asking the court to reconsider the bail conditions, based on the reasons detailed in an accompanying affidavit.
The motion was set for a hearing on Tuesday, June 3, 2025.
However, on Monday, June 2, 2025, Mr. Nimako retracted the application while Chairman Wontumi remained in EOCO custody amid unrest from NPP members.
