Simi breaks silence on ‘Duduke’ nickname: ‘It’s not who my daughter is

Nigerian artist Simisola Kosoko, better known as Simi, has asked her fans to refrain from calling her daughter, Adejare, by the nickname “Duduke.”

Simi released the popular song Duduke in 2020 while she was expecting her first child.

The heartfelt song quickly became a hit and was linked to her journey through pregnancy.

After she and her husband, fellow musician Adekunle Gold, welcomed their daughter Adejare in June 2020, fans started affectionately referring to the child as “Duduke.”

However, during a recent conversation with VJ Adams, Simi made it clear that she is not fond of the nickname and shared the meaning behind the term.

“People call my daughter Duduke, which I don’t like. That’s not her name. It doesn’t even mean anything. Had it meant something good, I would have allowed it. But it’s just a beat, duduke, duduke. That was what I meant. My heart beats like a drum,” she explained.

Simi stressed that “Duduke” was merely an onomatopoeic term used to express her emotions in the song, rather than a name for her daughter.

“Stop calling my child Duduke [laughs]. But you know what? I understand, it’s coming from a good place, so I try not to react,” she concluded.
