Manhyia South MP, Nana Agyei Baffour Awuah
The MP for Manhyia South has called on the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) to maintain a consistent strategy when addressing individuals under investigation who are currently outside Ghana, including former Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta.
Nana Agyei Baffour Awuah pointed out that the OSP set a significant precedent by traveling abroad to engage with Samuel Adam Mahama regarding the Airbus scandal, and he believes they should apply the same method for Ofori-Atta rather than relying on press conferences and public statements.
During an appearance on PM Express on Joy News Tuesday night, the MP referenced the OSP’s own findings.
“I would take a cue from the OSP’s own report in terms of how it handled the issue of the Airbus scandal,” he remarked.
“It clearly states on page 14 of the report that when it became challenging to meet with Samuel Adam Mahama, the president’s brother, they flew out of Ghana to interview him.”
He emphasized that this precedent should not be overlooked now that a similar situation has emerged.
“So in that regard, there’s a precedent set by the OSP regarding how it addresses individuals outside the country. Therefore, what should be the approach in this case?” he questioned.
Mr. Baffour Awuah expressed his support for the Special Prosecutor’s efforts to combat corruption and uphold the public interest.
“I stand with the Special Prosecutor because they represent the state and are dedicated to fighting corruption,” he affirmed.
“Thus, I am concerned about finding a way forward for the Special Prosecutor.”
Nonetheless, he firmly dismissed the idea of a public spectacle surrounding Ofori-Atta’s situation.
“For me, the approach should not involve a press conference,” he stated.
“Instead, it should mirror the strategy they used in the case of President Mahama’s brother.
