We’ll bring them to justice” – Energy Minister on ECG container scandal

Energy Minister John Abdulai Jinapor has promised that those responsible for the missing containers belonging to the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) will soon be held accountable under the law.

He made this commitment during a meeting with the Parliamentary Committee on Energy and officials from ECG, where they discussed the ongoing investigations into the containers’ disappearance.

In his remarks, the Minister confirmed that some of the previously missing containers have been located at the port. He emphasized that investigations are still ongoing to fully understand the circumstances that led to their disappearance.

“We are treating this issue with utmost seriousness. The recovery of some containers is a positive development, but our objective is to ensure that everyone involved is brought to justice,” Hon. Jinapor stated.

He also mentioned that a comprehensive report will be sent to the Attorney General to facilitate legal proceedings against any individuals found to be involved. He assured that the Ministry is dedicated to maintaining transparency and accountability throughout the investigation.

The missing containers were said to have held electrical equipment meant for national distribution projects.

Their absence raised alarms within the energy sector, leading to internal audits and follow-ups at various entry points.

It was during this review that some containers were found at the port, although the reasons for their presence there without proper documentation or clearance remain uncertain.

Investigations are concentrating on whether the situation arose from administrative errors, miscommunication between ECG and port authorities, or a deliberate act of diversion.
