Tell your cousin to face the law – Edem Agbana calls out Akufo-Addo over Ofori-Atta probe

Member of Parliament for Ketu North, Edem Agbana, has urged former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo to encourage his cousin, Ken Ofori-Atta, the former Finance Minister, to cooperate with the investigations led by the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP).

Currently, Ofori-Atta is on the OSP’s watchlist and has also been flagged by Interpol with a red notice. He is being investigated for alleged corruption and misuse of power during his time as finance minister.

Despite the OSP’s attempts to obtain his cooperation for an in-person interview, Ofori-Atta’s legal team informed the Special Prosecutor on June 2 that he is in the United States for medical treatment and is set to undergo surgery.

During an appearance on The Big Issue on Channel One TV on Saturday, June 7, 2025, Edem Agbana stressed that the rule of law should apply to everyone, irrespective of their political connections or family relationships.

“Whether it’s Ken Ofori-Atta or anyone else, no one should be above scrutiny. If the NPP is a legitimate political party, and former President Akufo-Addo, who stated during his handover that he was encouraging all his appointees to be accountable and follow due process, truly meant those words, he should motivate his cousin to comply with the due process so that proper investigations can occur,” he remarked.

In the meantime, the office reiterated that no verified medical documentation or official statement from any healthcare facility has been provided to validate that Mr. Ofori-Atta is unable to return to Ghana.
