Six more cases of Mpox have been confirmed in Ghana, raising the total number of infections to 85, as reported by the Ghana Health Service (GHS).
This update was shared on Wednesday, June 11, 2025, via a public health announcement on the GHS’s Facebook page.
This comes after a recent spike in cases, with 34 new infections reported earlier in the week across 10 different regions.
The GHS has urged the public to report any symptoms early and to stay vigilant, particularly in areas where cases have been identified.
Mpox, which was previously referred to as monkeypox, is a viral illness characterized by symptoms like fever, rash, headaches, muscle aches, and swollen lymph nodes.
The virus is transmitted through close contact with infected individuals or through contaminated surfaces and materials.
The GHS has encouraged anyone experiencing these symptoms to seek immediate medical attention at the nearest health facility.
Health officials have indicated that contact tracing is currently in progress, and surveillance efforts have been intensified in the affected regions. Patients exhibiting active symptoms are being closely monitored to curb further transmission.
The Service has reminded the public to refrain from direct contact with anyone displaying signs of illness and to practice hygiene measures, especially handwashing, as a preventive measure.
According to the GHS, the situation is still under control, and all necessary actions are being implemented to manage the virus.
