GTEC orders acting GIFEC boss to drop ‘doctor’ title over fake PhD

A source from the Ghana Investment Fund for Electronic Communication (GIFEC), where Sofo Rashid Tanko-Computer serves as the acting Chief Executive Officer (CEO), has informed Graphic Online that they have received a communication from the Ghana Tertiary Education Commission (GTEC) instructing Sofo Rashid Tanko-Computer to “cease” using the title of doctor.

The source revealed that the GTEC letter, dated June 3, 2025, stated that the PhD Tanko-Computer claims to have obtained in 2016 from Kingsnow University was deemed “unearned.”

As a result, GTEC has requested that he stop using the title “Doctor” and remove it from all official documents and platforms.

Furthermore, GTEC has asked Tanko-Computer to provide verifiable proof that the title has been eliminated from all relevant platforms, which include, but are not limited to, official documents, institutional profiles, websites, letterheads, and any other public or professional representations. The commission’s letter expressed that it expects his full cooperation in this matter and looks forward to receiving confirmation of compliance at his earliest convenience.

Previously, GTEC issued a warning on May 30, 2025, regarding the recent rise in the misuse of titles such as “Doctor” and “Professor” by individuals lacking recognized qualifications.

The Commission reiterated its earlier warning against the use of especially honorary academic titles, stressing the importance of public compliance.
