In a passionate new open letter, Martin Amidu, Ghana’s former Special Prosecutor, has accused the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) led by Kissi Agyebeng of misusing its authority in a calculated effort to tarnish the international standing of former Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta.
Amidu, who was the first individual to hold the position of Special Prosecutor in the country, asserts that prior to gathering adequate evidence for prosecution, the OSP obtained an arrest warrant on February 12, 2025, and worked with INTERPOL Ghana to label Ofori-Atta as a ‘fugitive from justice.’ He contends that the true intention was not to seek justice but to inflict public disgrace.
“The OSP’s mission is to misuse law enforcement powers to humiliate a once-prominent Minister in front of the global community,” Amidu claimed.
He argued that the push for an INTERPOL Red Notice was a calculated effort to destroy Ofori-Atta’s reputation, irrespective of the validity of the case against him.
Amidu also raised significant concerns regarding national security protocols, emphasizing that cases with such high stakes should involve informing the sitting President — a standard he adhered to during his time in office.
He provided a personal example, recalling how he briefed President Akufo-Addo in 2020 about the contentious Agyapa deal before making his findings public.
“As the founding Special Prosecutor, I kept the President informed about sensitive investigations. Kissi Agyebeng appears to be acting irresponsibly, possibly due to personal or political grudges.”
The former SP did not hold back when he implied that the current SP might be under the influence of a ‘businessman baron mentor from Roman Ridge’ or could be collaborating with a supposed NDC strategy called ‘Operation ORAL’, which targets former NPP officials.
Amidu also mentioned a previous incident involving a Red Notice against a UK-based suspect.
