Nurses’ strike turns deadly: Former GRNMA president says Health Minister is aailing Ghanaians

Immediate Past President of the Ghana Registered Nurses and Midwives Association (GRNMA), Kwaku Asante Krobea, has stated that the deaths occurring due to the ongoing strike are the responsibility of the Health Minister.

He believes that the key to resolving the deadlock lies with him.

Krobea argues that it is high time the health minister engaged the finance minister to ensure that nurses receive their rightful payments.

During an interview on Accra-based TV3, Kwaku Asante Krobea expressed these views.

He emphasized that rather than the Health Minister’s current stance, he should prioritize negotiations with the nurses, as retired nurses are backing the strike and will not provide their services.

“It is undeniable that lives are being lost and the situation for many is deteriorating. The resolution to this crisis rests with the Minister of Health, and he must lobby the Finance Minister to pay the nurses what they are owed. People are dying, and the Health Minister is accountable.

He should not deflect blame; both parties need to collaborate to reach a satisfactory resolution. The leadership of the Nurses and Midwives must also be ready to contribute. However, given the Health Minister’s approach, which I have previously indicated will not be effective,” he commented on TV3.
