As tensions rise regarding the contested results in the Ablekuma North Constituency, Dr. Valerie Esther Sawyerr is publicly addressing Electoral Commission Chairperson Jean Mensa for what she perceives as a concerning silence and a failure to exercise institutional authority.
Dr. Sawyerr, a prominent figure in the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), argues that the EC Chair has demonstrated a lack of leadership in addressing the chaos that ensued after the original pink sheets were destroyed during a violent incident at the collation center in December 2024.
“Where is the bell of the institution that is meant to treat all parties fairly?” she questioned rhetorically in an extensive post shared on social media.
“Where is the voice of decision-making?” She criticized the EC for allegedly favoring the acceptance of scanned documents from one political party—the NPP—without obtaining parallel records from the NDC or the EC itself.
Dr. Sawyerr contends that this represents a significant failure in impartiality, further exacerbated by the EC’s assertion that all political parties had reached a unanimous agreement on the decision—something she labels as “a bold-faced lie.”
