On Wednesday, June 11, Minister of Foreign Affairs Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa reported that he had fruitful discussions with the esteemed Foreign Minister of China, His Excellency Wang Yi.
He mentioned that China has proposed a 0% tariff on all exports from Ghana.
Mr. Ablakwa also pointed out that China is Ghana’s primary trading partner, with last year’s trade volume surpassing US$ 11 billion.
“This 0% tariff on all goods from Ghana and other African nations will enhance trade, generate employment, and foster more Ghanaian entrepreneurs,” he stated.
They also explored new industrial initiatives aligned with President Mahama’s vision, including the utilization of Ghana’s bauxite for a comprehensive aluminium industry supported by modern rail infrastructure.
“During our bilateral discussions at the ongoing China-Africa summit in Changsha, China, we further agreed to pursue the establishment of an electric car manufacturing facility in Ghana, leveraging Ghana’s strategic lithium resources,” Mr. Ablakwa shared on his X page.
He also mentioned that Ghana and China are set to sign a special Economic Partnership Agreement to solidify their mutually beneficial relationship.
