Ghana, Qatar partner to build Islamic medical school at university for development studies

Concessionary financing is being provided to set up an Islamic medical school at the University for Development Studies (UDS) located in Ghana’s Northern Region.

This initiative is designed to increase access to medical education and improve healthcare services in the northern region of the country.

The Minister stated that the new medical school will act as a center of excellence for training students in Islamic medicine, enabling them to compete on a global scale in the medical field.

“This collaboration is part of a larger strategy aimed at addressing regional inequalities in healthcare and education,” Mr. Iddrisu remarked. “If we can secure favorable concessionary financing for this, the ummah in that specific area will benefit greatly.”

Looking forward, the Minister emphasized Ghana’s dedication to engaging in the forthcoming Global Education Conference in Geneva this September, positioning the nation as a proactive participant in international educational advancement.

Khalid Bin Jabor Al Mesallam, Qatar’s Ambassador to Ghana, reiterated his country’s commitment to fostering educational and developmental partnerships.

“We need to seek out more opportunities to support Ghana’s education sector,” he noted.
