IGP applauds police hospital for heroic service during nurses strike

On April 13, 2025, the Inspector-General of Police, Mr. Christian Tetteh Yohuno, along with several members of the Police Management Board, visited the Police Hospital in Accra for a working visit.

The purpose of this visit was to praise the hospital’s administration and staff for their commendable handling of the significant number of patients seeking medical care during the strike by the Ghana Registered Nurses and Midwives Association (GRNMA).

Commissioner of Police Dr. Otu Nyarko, the Medical Director of the hospital, welcomed the IGP and his team, and shared that in the past week, the hospital saw a staggering increase of over 300% in patients needing medical assistance.

A similar surge was noted at the Police Hospital in Kumasi and other police clinics nationwide. He mentioned that while this increase placed considerable strain on the hospital, they had put contingency plans in place to effectively manage the situation.

Moreover, all doctors who were on annual or study leave were called back to duty to ensure that no individual in need of healthcare was denied service.
The IGP expressed his appreciation to the Medical Director and his team for their commitment and thanked them for their essential contributions during this critical time.

He urged all officers and civilian staff at the hospital to keep up their diligent efforts to save lives and ensure that every patient who comes to the hospital receives the required medical care.
