The Minister for Food and Agriculture, Eric Opoku, has declared that earth-moving machinery acquired through the District Road Improvement Programme (DRIP) will soon be put to use in building farm roads throughout the nation.
He mentioned that every district will receive fuel to operate the DRIP machinery, ensuring they are utilized for their designated purpose.
While speaking to reporters in Kumasi on Sunday, June 15, Mr. Opoku disclosed that the government plans to temporarily suspend all significant road construction projects in rural areas to allow for the effective use of the DRIP equipment.
“Our goal is to equip all districts with the financial means to fuel the machines and utilize the available equipment to create access roads. This will facilitate the transportation of food from farms to communities without any hassle,” he stated.
The minister also revealed that some officials were in the process of awarding new road construction contracts in rural areas, but he stepped in to halt those plans.
“Just last week, there were individuals preparing to grant contracts for road construction in certain rural communities. I instructed them to cease because we already possess the equipment. All that is required is to supply them with fuel and let them get to work,” he added.
