As the conflict between Israel and Iran moves into its second week, Ghana has implemented a thorough Emergency Evacuation Plan for its citizens in Israel, which is ready to be activated as soon as conditions allow.
Hon. Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa announced that Ghana’s embassy in Israel has located 922 Ghanaians currently residing in the country, which includes 65 students attending six different Israeli universities.
“Ghana’s embassy in Israel has located 922 Ghanaians currently residing in Israel… 65 Ghanaian students enrolled in 6 Israeli universities,” he disclosed.
Although evacuation efforts from Israel are currently on hold due to border closures and a state of emergency, Ghana is actively engaging through diplomatic channels to obtain permission for a safe exit.
“An evacuation from Israel cannot proceed at this time without the explicit authorization of Israeli authorities — Ghana is exploring those approval avenues.”
In the interim, the Ghanaian embassy is operating remotely as per the guidance of Israel’s Foreign Ministry, and strong communication lines with the Ghanaian community have been established.
Moreover, measures have been taken to ensure that Ghanaians have access to bomb shelters.
Ablakwa assured that once evacuation approvals are granted, the plan will be set in motion immediately to safeguard citizens from danger.
“We shall not fail our compatriots,” he concluded.
