Dr. Bawumia is NPP’s strongest candidate for 2028 – Says NDC’s Hamza Suhuyini

A member of the communication team for the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Hamza Suhuyini, has made a surprising endorsement of former Vice President  , calling him the most viable candidate for the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the upcoming 2028 general elections.

During an appearance on Channel One TV’s Breakfast Daily on Wednesday, June 18, Suhuyini raised questions about the NPP’s push for an early internal congress, implying that the motivation was more about maintaining control than fostering genuine transformation.

“No matter how you look at it, the drive to hold an early congress is fundamentally about control, rather than an opportunity to rebuild and promote transformation within the NPP’s political landscape,” he contended.

“This is why I believe that the current leadership of the party is causing significant harm to Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia,” he added.

Even as a member of the opposition, Suhuyini candidly recognized Bawumia’s advantage over other potential candidates within the NPP.

“From my perspective, whether the congress occurs today or a year from now, I genuinely believe that Dr. Bawumia is in a superior position to lead the NPP compared to any of the other contenders,” he remarked.

He also advised the former Vice President to stay alert and not let internal party politics hinder his future opportunities.

“He needs to take valuable lessons to heart. He must not let these individuals undermine the responsibility that the party may assign to him for reform. This is simply friendly advice,” Suhuyini concluded.

The NDC communicator wrapped up by expressing that he would be “greatly surprised” if Bawumia is not chosen to lead the NPP into the 2028 elections, indicating an unusual yet significant display of confidence from the opposition.
