Three invigilators in the Ashanti Region have been apprehended and later released on bail due to their suspected involvement in examination misconduct during the ongoing 2025 Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE).
The individuals were arrested at various examination centers, including Twedie and Mampong, following tips that led to their capture.
As per the Ashanti Regional Branch Controller of the West African Examinations Council (WAEC), Ernest Akoto Yeboah, the invigilators were reportedly found in possession of photocopied answers and images of exam questions on their mobile devices. In some cases, candidates were also discovered with similar unauthorized materials.
Mr. Yeboah voiced serious concerns regarding the matter, cautioning that such violations jeopardize the integrity of the examination process.
“We are currently compiling our report on these incidents, which we have sent to Accra. The committee in Accra will review the report and determine the next steps; our role is simply to submit the report. We will discuss how things will proceed next year after the exams,” he remarked.
WAEC is anticipated to take additional measures once the report is assessed by its headquarters.
