Emma Adwoa Appiaa Osei-Duah, the Director of Communications and Corporate Affairs at Zoomlion Ghana Limited, has urged beneficiaries of the national sanitation program to not just depend on the four-hour sanitation jobs but to seek out other income-generating opportunities.
She pointed out that many women, particularly those who trade in markets, opt for early morning sweeping duties as a way to contribute patriotically and find personal satisfaction before they open their shops.
“As women, we have been taught to sweep, and we enjoy doing it. We love the party, so we want to participate,” she expressed during an interview on TV3’s New Day program, which was observed by MyNewsGh.
“They complete that quickly and then head to their shops.”
She emphasized the significance of financial independence and encouraged young individuals to look up to those abroad who manage multiple jobs to make ends meet.
“We tell them that relying solely on these four hours won’t suffice. Once you finish this, move on and pursue something else,” she recommended.
“In other places, we see our brothers and sisters who have migrated. Some may be juggling two or three jobs. If you’re fortunate and your job doesn’t take up all your time during the day, why not take on more?”
Her remarks are part of a larger initiative from Zoomlion aimed at fostering a proactive and entrepreneurial spirit among the youth involved in sanitation-related projects.
