Minerals Commission pushes for overhaul of Mining Act, engages NDPC on policy alignment

The Chief Executive Officer of the Minerals Commission, Martin Kwaku Ayisi (Esq.), has put forward a suggestion to amend the Minerals and Mining Act of 2006 (Act 703).

This suggestion was presented during a meeting on June 19, 2025, where Mr. Ayisi, who heads the Review Committee of the 2014 Mining Policy, convened with the management of the National Development Planning Commission (NDPC).

The Minerals Commission delegation included Board Chairman, Mr. William Ntow Boahene (Esq.); Professor Jerry Samuel Yaw Kuma, Technical Advisor to the Minister of Lands and Natural Resources; Ms. Victoria Awuni, Deputy CEO responsible for Policy Planning, Mineral Titles & Local Content; along with other members of the Review Committee led by Mr. Benjamin Aryee, the former CEO of the Commission.

Dr. Audrey Smock Amoah, the Director General of NDPC, led her management team in welcoming and engaging with the Minerals Commission representatives.

During the discussions, Dr. Amoah and the NDPC technical team encouraged the review committee to ensure that the revised policy structure aligns with NDPC’s policy guidelines, promoting consistency with the Commission’s framework.
NDPC officials also urged the committee to include a Strategic Implementation Plan and a Monitoring and Evaluation (M&E) Framework to facilitate ongoing feedback and future policy assessments.

In reply, Mr. Ayisi asked NDPC management to provide detailed written proposals within a two-week timeframe for the review committee’s consideration.
