The Appointments Committee of Parliament has rejected a petition concerning the Supreme Court Justice nominee, Justice Kwaku Tawiah Ackaah-Boafo.
Earlier, on Wednesday, June 18, the vetting process for Justice Ackaah-Boafo was put on hold after a petition was filed by Anthony Kwabenya Rau, who alleged misconduct by the nominee during a court session.
The petition claims that Justice Ackaah-Boafo insulted and disrespected Mr. Rau, labeling him as “arrogant” and “power drunk.”
In response, Justice Ackaah-Boafo has categorically denied these accusations.
On Friday, June 20, 2025, the Committee’s Chairman, Bernard Ahiafor, declared the petition to be “worthless and unmeritorious,” calling it baseless according to legal standards. He pointed out that the petitioner has merely delayed the Committee’s proceedings by submitting such a petition against the nominee.
Mr. Ahiafor emphasized that after thorough consideration and careful examination of both the petition and the related judgement, the Committee concluded that “the claims in the petition that the Judge insulted and attacked the petitioner are entirely unfounded.”
With the petition dismissed, he announced that the vetting process for Justice Ackaah-Boafo would continue.
“The complaint against the nominee pertains to the exercise of judicial authority in managing the case that led to the referenced judgement.
