If I don’t get indication from my boss, I am not taking orders – Appointments C’ttee clerk

-

In the heat of the ministerial vetting chaos on January 30, 2025, Clerk to the Appointments Committee, Gifty Jiagge-Gobah, stood her ground despite intense pressure from both the Majority and Minority.

Appearing before the Special Committee investigating the events, she revealed how she found herself caught in the middle of a charged political confrontation over the swearing-in of a nominee.

“The Majority side kept screaming at me that I should let the nominee take the oath. The Minority Leader was also screaming,” she recounted.

However, she maintained her position, insisting that she would not take instructions from anyone except her superior.

“I pointed to them respectfully that my boss is standing right here. It is in his shoes that I step in, and if I don’t get an indication from him, I am not going to take orders from anybody,” she asserted.

As tensions escalated, she became visibly flustered.

“At a point, I got hot, so I started fanning myself and took a seat,” she said.

Her dramatic exit came only after she received multiple urgent calls and a message from her husband, instructing her to leave immediately.

“I got three calls and a message from my dear husband instructing me to leave the premises immediately. That order I took, and I left,” she disclosed.
