Northern Region CLOGSAG members defy strike over Births and Deaths Registrar appointment

-

Some members of the Civil and Local Government Staff Association, Ghana (CLOGSAG) in the Northern Region have refused to join the nationwide strike protesting the appointment of the new Births and Deaths Registrar.

The nationwide industrial action, which began on Thursday, February 20, 2025, was declared by CLOGSAG’s National Executive Council (NEC) following the appointment of Samuel Adom Botchway as Registrar of the Births and Deaths Registry.

The Association contends that Botchway is politically exposed and unfit for the role.

However, the dissenting members in the Northern Region argue that their leadership should focus on more pressing concerns, such as salary adjustments and pension deductions, rather than what they describe as a trivial matter.

They believe that the energy and resources used to protest the appointment would be better spent addressing issues that directly affect their livelihoods.

CLOGSAG’s Executive Secretary, Isaac Bampoe Addo, had earlier announced the strike in a press release dated February 13, 2025, following NEC’s meeting on February 11, 2025.

Despite the directive, the resistance from some regional members highlights divisions within the Association over the priorities and direction of its leadership.
