The National Tripartite Committee (NTC) has announced a 10% increase in Ghana’s National Daily Minimum Wage (NDMW) for 2025, setting the new wage at GHS 19.97.
This was disclosed in a communiqué issued after negotiations held in Accra on Thursday, February 20, 2025.
According to the NTC, the increase was determined after considering economic challenges, cost of living, business sustainability, and employment growth.
The new wage will take effect from March 1, 2025, and all establishments paying below this amount are required to adjust accordingly.
Hon. Dr. Abdul-Rashid Hassan Pelpuo, Minister for Labour, Jobs, and Employment, emphasized the government’s commitment to fair wages. “We have taken into account the economic realities and the need to protect workers while ensuring businesses remain sustainable,” he stated.
Nana Dr. Emmanuel Adu-Sarkodee, President of the Ghana Employers’ Association (GEA), urged businesses to comply with the new wage structure.
“Employers must take note of this increment and make the necessary adjustments,” he noted.
On behalf of organized labor, Mr. Joshua Ansah, Secretary-General of the Trades Union Congress (TUC), welcomed the increase but stressed the need for continuous wage improvements.
“Workers deserve fair wages that reflect the rising cost of living. We hope to see even more progress in the future,” he said.
