PSG celebration turns deadly: 2 killed, 559 arrested in France

Two individuals have lost their lives and hundreds have been detained throughout France following the celebrations of Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) fans after the club’s triumph in the Champions League final, as reported by the French interior ministry.

In the southwestern town of Dax, a 17-year-old boy was fatally stabbed in the chest late Saturday night, according to local news sources.

Additionally, a 23-year-old man riding a scooter in central Paris was killed after being struck by a vehicle, as stated by the prosecutor’s office.

During the exuberant celebrations marking PSG’s first-ever victory in European club football’s most prestigious tournament, flares and fireworks were ignited, bus shelters were vandalized, and cars were set ablaze.

PSG denounced the violence in an official statement, emphasizing that these “isolated incidents are against the club’s principles and do not reflect the views of the majority of our fans.” French President Emmanuel Macron described the violent clashes as “unacceptable” and without justification, assuring that those responsible will be identified and held accountable.

According to France’s interior ministry, 192 individuals sustained injuries during the confrontations in the early hours of Sunday, with 559 arrests made, including 491 in Paris.
