The call for a re-run of parliamentary elections in the Ablekuma North Constituency is gaining traction, fueled by new revelations of irregularities that are intensifying the situation.
Dr. Valerie Esther Sawyerr, a Presidential Advisor and prominent member of the NDC, is at the forefront of questioning the validity of the final results. These results were partially based on scanned pink sheets submitted by the NPP, following the reported destruction of the original carbonated pink sheets from all parties during a tumultuous event at the collation center on December 7-8, 2024.
Central to her argument is a straightforward question: Can scanned pink sheets, which have been validated by some but not all Presiding Officers, serve as a reliable basis for declaring a winner?
Dr. Sawyerr argues that the Electoral Commission’s acceptance of scanned pink sheets from a single political party—without comprehensive validation—breaches electoral protocols and compromises transparency.
“Seventeen Presiding Officers were summoned to ‘validate’ the scanned sheets. Some were unable to verify the data linked to their polling stations,” she remarked.
She is now urging the Electoral Commission to announce a new election in the 62 polling stations affected, cautioning that any refusal to take action could harm the nation’s democratic integrity and incite political turmoil.
