The Member of Parliament for Kwabre East, Onyina-Akyeampong Akwasi Gyamfi, has expressed his disapproval regarding the reported detention of two Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) candidates by their school’s headmaster.
The students, who attend the Big Six Educational Complex in Meduma—a private institution located in the Kwabre East Municipality—were allegedly locked inside a classroom on Monday, preventing them from sitting for their first exam paper.
According to reports, the headmaster restricted the candidates’ freedom due to outstanding school fees and their unwillingness to join a pre-exam camp organized by the school.
In a conversation with Citi News, the MP mentioned that he has filed a formal complaint with the police. “I am personally invested in this issue. I have submitted a report to the crime officer, and I expect the person responsible to be held accountable for their actions.
I am aware that a similar situation took place at the same school last year, so I plan to take this case very seriously,” he stated.
